Performance Task IV – Food and Activity

On ISM Sports Day around 12:30pm, you and your friends go to the cafeteria together to buy lunch. You talk about your food preference and decide what to buy. When you sit down with your meal, you start to chat about the food, favorite Sports Day’s activities and after school activities.

Each group (2 students) creates a poster to illustrate the dialogue. On the poster, you must write your own script lines and draw or glue pictures of food and sports you mention. The dialogue must include: greetings, food and activity preferences, your comments about food and activities. Each student should ask and answer at least 8 questions; greetings do not count. After finishing the poster, your group will give a presentation to the class.

Due Date: April 30, 2012 for Blocks A and B, May 3, 2012 for Block H

Assessment Criteria:

Poster: general appearance, content, sentence structure, character writing

Oral presentation: Pronunciation and tones, fluency and presentation skill

Performance Task IV – Asking for Direction

You are travelling in a Chinese-speaking country, and you lost your bag which contains your passport, wallet and other important personal belongings. The first thing you have to do is to report to the nearest police officer and find out the location of the embassy so that you can apply for a new passport. The embassy is not far from your current location. However, given it is rush hour; the quickest way to get there is by walking.

Two students will play the roles of tourist and police officer for this performance. When you approach a Chinese police officer, please include the following information in your conversation:

What has happened to you?
What did you lose? What was in your bag?
What do you want to do, and why?
Where is the embassy?
How do you usually get there by car or bus?
What is best way to get there right now? Why?
How do you get there by walking?
