Performance Task 2: Shopping

Christmas is approaching; many stores are on sale. This is a great opportunity to do some shopping for Christmas gifts. Each student will go to a store to buy at least four items. The items may be clothes, shoes, accessories, stationary, toys, games or other gifts.

This is an individual task. Each student should write a complete skit (both buyer and seller) for this shopping experience. The dialogue must include the following components:

  1. Price inquiry with proper measure words
  2. Bargaining
  3. Ask questions or make comments about the items, e.g. the size of a shirt, color of a pair of pants, price comparison, quality of item and others
  4. Specify the quantity of each item to buy
  5. Payment methods, making change

Procedure:

  • Brainstorm on the topics
  • Submit your skit as the WRITTEN part of your performance task
  • Oral practice
  • Carry out an improvised conversation about buying the item. Include the above elements in the conversation

Grading criteria:

  1. Skit writing: 50 points
  2. Oral performance: 20 points
